HHC History & Mission
Hard Heidi's Cider is owned/operated by Heidi Smart. Yes, there really is a Hard Heidi!
I was born and raised on the Olympic Peninsula and my cider journey began in 2003 with a spindly orchard, west of Port Angeles. I was recovering from a chemical exposure which left me with a lifelong sensitivity to chemicals and preservatives in food & beverages. I had 3 moss covered "farm apple" trees that I had inherited and besides just feeding the local deer, I looked into how I could better utilize this crop for a more natural beverage option.
And the experimentation began!
Fast forward, life happens... I moved homes, changed jobs, family issues and of course, finances. After many roadblocks (including a pandemic) I was finally licensed for wholesale and began selling in 2020.
This learning experience has spanned 20 + years and the drive and creativity has remained strong.
Step outside of the big brands and grab a cider that is as close to the orchard as you'll get!
Mission of HHC is basic: No sugar, No sulfites, No BS....
All Natural Cider!
HHC is uniquely handcrafted in small batches using locally gleaned apples, specific to our region & maritime climate. Each season and forage is different, creating a unique blend of our community. I produce a west coast, farm-style cider; minimally processed with no sulfites, additives, or sweeteners. No two batches are alike and are limited editions.
I produce 3 styles of cider:
HARD APPLE (Traditional style)
HARD FRUIT (Cider infused with select fruits)
HARD SPICE (Cider infused with spices/botanicals)
These flavors rotate with the seasons and when the fruit is at their peak.
